Kline’s effort to portray himself as a law and order prosecutor are little more than a sleight of hand designed to oppose abortion. His willingness to victimize women who have made the difficult decision to terminate a pregnancy demonstrates his disregard for the privacy of these individuals as well as the lengths he will go to advance his political aspirations.
Additionally, Kline and his ilk hope to highlight the flexibility granted to physicians in making exceptions to late term abortion restrictions. The courts have required that many of the laws limiting late term abortions be designed to allow physicians to protect the health and welfare of the pregnant woman…a provision abortion opponents would prefer be omitted from such laws.
One can only hope that the Supreme Court will limit these virtual witch hunts and maintain the privacy and dignity of the women in question. All too often, those vehemently opposed to abortion fail to consider the difficult circumstances confronting these women.
The fact that these same activists frequently object to comprehensive sex education and unrestricted access to birth control simply compounds the issue. I find it ironic that many within the GOP accuse the Democratic Party of favoring a nanny state. Truth be told, countless Republicans not only favor a nanny state; they would like to mete out their own brand of punishment to those who fail to comply with the imposition of their narrowly defined beliefs.
We have so much “flexibility granted to physicians” in Kansas that we have infanticide on demand, and for a profit, and your “choice” is to look away?
We protect child predators in Kansas since helping the victims is less important than protecting the predators? A medical procedure that destroys evidence — and a life — is quite convenient for the predators.
Kansas law doesn’t really matter anymore since it cannot be enforced because of the courts. There have many judicial abuses, e.g., The Olathe Daily News, May 9, 2008: “Sealed documents abused public’s trust”, http://www.womeninfluencingthe.....trust.html. You may have read that article in Olathe, but not in the Kansas City Star.
We will have a more caring society when we all embrace a culture of life.
Is it shameful that Kline, who prides himself on combating child sexual predators, hired a psychiatrist who has a history of protecting pedophiles to go after Dr. Tiller?
Operation Rescue issued a press release, therefore Dion Lefler promoted it in the Eagle, about how Dr. McHugh, concluded that all of the alleged illegal abortions weren’t for mental health reasons.
McHugh is a committed Catholic who is an adviser to the Catholic church. He has written articles in the past suggesting how pedophiles should be treated and have even covered up the crimes of pedophiles from police. It is required by the law to report any acts of child molestation to the authorities. I had to follow that law when going to grad school and so did Dr. McHugh. McHugh chose to ignore that law, probably because he was covering up for some pedophile priests.
It’s clear McHugh was picked by Kline because of his ideology. He knew McHugh was opposed to abortion and it was clear his conclusion was going to be one against Dr. Tiller. Dr. McHugh is on the record as stating there is absolutely no psychiatric justification for abortion. If this is the case then it was a waste of $5,100 in taxpayer money for this sham review of medical records since McHugh already predetermined his decision before reviewing the records. It’s no surprise Dion Lefler didn’t present these facts which put McHugh’s credibility in question.
sasnak: Thank you for your comments, but why are you using a tax-payer funded .edu E-mail account from a state institution for such political postings?
While people make mistakes and no one is perfect, I do not believe that a “committed Catholic” who is clear thinking would protect pedophiles from police. The truth should always be made public. The “Culture of Life” is always about protecting innocent life, and would include protecting children from child predators.
Can we agree that all acts of child molestation should be reported to authorities? Can we agree that an abortion doctor should not destroy the evidence of child rape? Why are you attacking Catholic bishops for protecting child molesters as a diversion to the problem of abortion doctors protecting child predators?
If the “facts” you cite that Dr. McHugh’s judgment was so flawed, why is the left doing everything possible to keep these late-term abortion and child rape cases brought by Kline out of court? Why is the left protecting child predators and looking the other way on infanticide? Why is the Culture of Death so strong?
