Voters in State Senate District 8 recently received a mailing from Tim Owens in his bid against Ben Hodge for Kansas Senate. This piece, “Protecting Kansas Seniors,” had this “paid for” messge:

“Paid for by Owens for Kansas House Committee, Donald Schrick, CPA, Treasurer.”

Several days ago in a mailing, the message was:

“Paid for by Owens for Kansas Senate Committee, Donald Schrick, CPA, Treasurer.”

Why does one say “Senate” and the other says “House”?

Thomas C (Tim) Owens originally planned to run for re-election in House District 19, and appointed Donald Schrick as his Treasurer for his House committee. But when Barbara Allen decided not to run for re-election in Senate District 8, Owens decided to run for that office instead, and appointed Mr. Schrick to be the Treasurer of his Senate election committee.

Owens likely accidentally used “Paid for by Ownes for Kansas House Committee” in his mailing today.

Owens for House Committee

The word “House” was likely a typo and should have said “Senate,” which was used in an earlier mailing:

Owens for Senate

Owens’ reports filed next week will tell for sure which committee paid for the mailing. Assuming the mailing today had a simple typo, Owens’ likely will not face much of a consequence for this minor mistake.

One comment about Owens’ “It’s Night & day!” mailing: Owens claimed that both he and Ben Hodge were pro-life in this mailing. If true, why has Owens not received a KFL endorsement in past years or in this election, and Ben Hodge was endorsed by Kansans for Life? Why does Owens think he is pro-life when the leading pro-life group, KFL, endorsed his opponent, Ben Hodge?

Why is Owens acting like a social conservative in his mailing, when he was endorsed by several liberal groups, including MAIN*PAC, KNEA, and Kansas Families for Education (KFE)?

The liberal Kansas Traditional Republican Majority sent two mailings on behalf of Owens that were delivered today in Senate District 8.

Based on endorsements, isn’t Owens the liberal in this race, and Hodge the conservative?
