Mary Ca Ralstin, an unsuccessful Republican candidate for State Board of Education in the November general election, has been a Republican for Democrat Dennis Moore for at least four election cycles (8 years). This year both Ralstin and her husband, James, were listed in the recently published article about the 2008 class of Republicans for Moore.
Mary Ca Ralstin has given to both liberal Republicans and Democrats in recent years:
- $50 to Democrat Pete Roman for State Senate on 3/27/2004.
- $50 to “moderate” Republican Stephanie Sharp for State Rep on 5/31/2006.
- $250 to Democrat Paul Morrison for Attorney General in 2006 ($50 on 9/2/2006 and $200 on 10/15/2006).
- $100 to “moderate” Republican Sue Gamble for State Senate on 7/16/2008.
With “moderate” Sue Gamble losing the August 2008 primary to conservative Mary Pilcher Cook in the State Senate 10 race, what could Mary Ca Ralstin do to help her liberal friend, Pete Roman, whom she had supported in 2004 in her State Senate district?
Was Mary Ca running as Republican for State Board of Education perhaps a bit concerned about the Republican “loyalty committee” that had been put in place last year?
Democrats mocked the Republican “loyalty committe.” The press lampooned Republicans for their loyalty committee but looked the other way when Gov. Kathleen Sebelius demanded loyalty among Democrats by actively taking out any incumbent Democrat that crossed her. Democrats spent a lot of money in Kansas to demand loyalty.
Ralstin did not contribute anything to Pete Roman’s campaign this year. However, some may find it somewhat unusual that her 19-year-old Republican daughter, who voted for the first time in the August 2008 primary, had spare cash and motivation to make two contributions to Pete Roman for State Senate.
On Oct 8, 2008 Ralstin’s daughter gave $50 cash to Roman, and previously on Aug 15, 2008 wrote a check for $100 to Roman. (I would love to see the handwriting on that check.) Roman reported these contributions in his amended Oct 31 report. Why would a 19-year-old, who is a registered Republican, give $150 to a Democrat for State Senate instead of mom?
Mary Ca Ralstin trained her daughter well: According to the democraticunderground.com web site, her daughter at age 14 attended a rally for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry in 2004. In fact, her daughter appeared in an AP picture as she “listens closely” to Kerry as he spoke “to local supporters at teh Airline History Museum in Kansas City, MO.”
Perhaps when “Republican” moms take their children to listen to Democratic presidential candidates, the children grow up to donate to Democrats?
Why does someone try so hard to pretend to be a Republican instead of supporting Democrats directly?
