[Update (1/20): Oddly, the Wyandotte County Election Office changed to link to an updated and corrected document, but left the link to the old document with errors online.]
The Election Office page on the Wyandotte County Unified Government web site has several “Quick Links” to answer common requests.
One of these quick links is to a Directory of Elected Officials, which is a PDF file of all elected officials of interest to residents in Wyandotte County. This directory shows officials in national offices, state offices, Unified Government of Wyandotte County offices, Board of Public Utilities, and school districts.
But how can an election office publish the wrong winners in at least three different contests?
In Wyandotte County apparently Jim Slattery [D] beat incumbent Pat Roberts [R] to become the U.S. Senator for Kansas? Here’s what’s in the WyCo directory of elected officials:
But Official Vote Totals at the Kansas Secretary of State’s web site show a different result with Pat Roberts being re-elected in November:
An inspection of other races in the Wyandotte County Directory of Elected Officials shows at least two other errors.
The list of elected officials says Joe Novak is now the State Rep for District 39:
But the official election results from the Kansas Secretary of State show Joe Novak lost to Owen Donohoe:
The list of elected officials says Mary Ca Ralstin was elected to the State Board of Education:
But the official election results from the Kansas Secretary of State show Mary Ca Ralstin lost to Sue Storm:
How long will the Wyandotte County Election Commissioner, Bruce L. Newby, need to fix these mistakes? How can incumbents be removed from a directory of elected officials when they didn’t lose?
Thanks to Jim Brock for bringing this matter to my attention.
