A third weekly “Tea Party” in the Kansas City area was held today in Olathe, KS at the busy intersection of 119th Street and Strang Line Road. Almost 120 were counted at this event.
While some signs were recycled from the last two weeks by those attending all the rallies, new and creative signs were shown today by others also frustrated with the wasteful federal government spending.
Why are all the “for the children” groups so silent about how this gigantic new “stimulus” debt is harming our children’s future?
See photos of today’s event below.
Today’s weather was about 45 degrees warmer than the Tea Party held in Overland Park on Feb. 21 near Congressman Dennis Moore’s (D-KS) office, and in Kansas City on Feb 28 near U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill’s (D-MO) office. Today’s wind gusts were warm and out of the south instead of the bitterly cold north winds of the last two weeks.
“Stop the Bailouts”
The woman above demonstrates the importance of a wooden sign with a handle when there are high wind gusts at these events.
Tea Party goers were careful to retrieve signs when some signs were blown into the busy intersection by wind gusts.
“In loving memory of … American Democracy”
Many fear the trends toward socialism shown by President Barack Obama and the Democratic-led Congress.
“We Surround Them! 9 Principles, 12 Values. UNITE, or DIE.”
This protestor is telling people about Glenn Beck’s “We Surround Them” project, which will be unveiled next Friday.
Left: “Castros’ Socialism Destroyed Cuba. Obama’s Socialism Will Destroy America”
Right: “Great Men Died for my Freedom. It’s not Obama’s to give away.”
Obama’s Pork
Left: “Don’t Tread on Me” and “Going Galt” [See Michelle Malkin's explanation of "Going Galt."]
Right: “Which One Is Obama Trying Hardest to Destroy?”
[Side note: I enjoy meeting people in person that I have only previously met on the Internet at such events.]
Back: “Got Socialism?”
Front: “Don’t Rob My Piggy To Pay For Your Pork”
“I Can’t Afford YOUR Mortgage”
Signs from left-to-right:
- “Bailout: TARP, Omni-Pork Bill, TARP2, etc.: ‘Chains’ You Can Believe In!”
- “Stimulus Plan is Pork Barrel Spending”
- “All That is Necessary For Evil to Triumph Is For Good Men / Good Women to do Nothing” Edmund Burke
- “Honk If You Want to Pay My Mortgage”
Left: “Oink if you love earmarks! 8500 in Omni-Spending”
Right: “Socialism is not the ‘Change’ we had in mind”
“Uncle Sam Wants His Country Back”
“If you can read this sign, you’re smarter than Nancy Peolosi”
Always proofread your signs <g>. I had a fun conversation with these women who didn’t want me to take a picture of the sign unless the spelling was corrected. You can see the faint pen correction above changing “Your” to “You’re”. [I need a copy editor, myself.]
“George Soros and Obama ‘08″
Some brave souls braved the busy traffic and staked out the corner on the north side.
Signs from left-to-right:
- “Honk 4 Free Enterprise”
- “Bailout = Ripoff. Sorry Kids / Grandkids”
- “The Forgotten Man” [wife's sign (not show): "Broken Dreams by Obama"]
This Tea Party in Olathe was the 3rd weekly anti-stimulus, anti-pork, pro-government accountability protest. The first one was on Feb 21 outside Congressman Dennis Moore’s office in Overland Park. Last week on Feb 28, the Tea Party was held near the Plaza with a nearly mile-long march to U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill’s office.
Today’s organizer suggested future rallies may be held in other KC area locations, perhaps Liberty (an appropriate name!), and perhaps at various city council or school district meetings.
New Kansas City Tea Parties will be announced on this blog.
There will be a Tea Party at the Kansas Capitol in Topeka on Monday, which will be part of the AFP-Kansas Day at the Capitol:
Join AFP in Topeka on Monday, March 9 for AFP’s Statehouse Rally. There is still time to tell our legislators that now is the time to enact meaningful budget reform in Kansas. Two years ago we had nearly $1 billion in the bank and we now face a $1 billion shortfall, not because our revenue stream has dried up, but because of how much we spend.
We’ll carry our message right to the south lawn of the Capitol where we’ll rally to encourage our elected officials not to rely on federal bailout money to balance our state budget.
Join us at 2:30 pm Monday, March 9 on the south lawn of the Statehouse. Bring your homemade signs, and help us send a message to Kansas elected officials that we’ve had enough wasteful government spending, and that taking a federal bailout isn’t the solution to our budget shortfall.
