Today, Americans for Prosperity-Kansas held their “Day at the Capitol” to hear speakers talk about economic issues facing Kansas and the country.  At least 150 attended this meeting.

The speakers and topics included:

  • Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins, Federal legislative update
  • Earl Watkins, President & CEO of Sunflower Electric Power, Energy debate in Kansas
  • Ray Merrick, House Majority Leader, Kansas House Republican agenda
  • Dr. Art Hall, Executive Director of the Center for Applied Economics at the University of Kansas, Property tax reform in Kansas
  • Senator Tim Huelskamp, Budget transparency & card-check legislation

Some of these talks will be the subject of Meadowlark articles in the next few days.

After the meeting  the group held a “Tea Party” rally on the south side of the Capitol as rain threatened the event.

This Topeka Tea Party followed other such events in Kansas including Tea Parties in Overland Park (Feb 14), Wichita (Feb 27) and Olathe (Mar 7).  Also, a Tea Party in the snow was held just east of Kansas in Kansas City Missouri (Feb 28).
