Last week the Wichita Eagle’s blog speculated about a Tiahrt-Glickman rematch in a senatorial bid in 2010.

The Eagle’s blog posting mentioned that former U.S. Congressman Dan Glickman from Wichita admitted he was not a great fundraiser.  So where might Glickman get money to run for U.S. Senate in Kansas?

Today, Andy Stern, the head of the 2-million member SEIU union that spent perhaps as much as $60 million to help elect President Obama, tweeted about his lunch meeting:

SEIU_AndyStern: Interesting lunch with Dan Glickman about the future.

This tweet already was noted by both the Politico and The Hill as possibly meaning Glickman may be pursuing a run for U.S. Senate in 2010.

The Politico simply noted:

Remember that the MPAA chairman’s future is up in the air

Glickman currently heads the “MPAA”  — the Motion Picture Association of America.

The Hill’s “Tweets you need to read” today included this:  Labor boss meets with potential Senate candidate.

Although Glikman (sic) describes his chances of running as “extremely remote” this meeting may fuel more speculation about a possible candidacy. Democrats have had trouble finding a strong candidate to face Rep. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) next year.

The Hill forgot that a Democrat in that race will face the winner of a Republican primary between Congressman Todd Tiahrt from Wichita and Congressman Jerry Moran, who they did mention.

Besides providing a huge amount of money to help elect Barack Obama president, SEIU money has flowed into Kansas for a number of years to help Kansas Democrats.

In 2006 the SEIU gave $60,000 to Kansas Democrats as part of a  complicated money scheme.

In 2008 the SEIU gave former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ PAC $100,000 for her to spend on Kansas politics.

Will SEIU’s political money flow again into Kansas to help Glickman run for the U.S. Senate?
