Four wearing “Support Health Care Reform” signs in support of President Obama’s Health Care Reform were met by an opposing group of as many as 20 at Brookridge Park in Overland Park shortly after 8:30 this morning.
Those organizing the event announced it on “Organizing for America” at my.barackobama.com:
Join us Saturday, August 1st for a walk to support our health ideals of prevention, accountability, and support. We are walking to demonstrate our commitment to lower costs, improve access, and provide choice in accordance with President Obama’s Health Care Reform principles.
The 9-12 group organized its opposition to health care reform at the same time and place through E-mail, their web site, and at least one blog, include this posting by Nice Deb: “Reminder To KC Area Readers: Counter The Pro-ObamaCare Mob In KC This Weekend.”
Initially both groups started walking together. A few from the 9-12 group followed the pro-Obama supporters for a few blocks but decided to hold their signs along 103rd Street at Lowell instead of continuing with the walk.
Others from the 9-12 group, and a few from a local Fair Tax group, including Earl Long, met in the park shelter to discuss recent actions by Congress and other local events that will be held to protest those actions.
The 9-12 group announced plans to attend a national rally in Washington, DC on Sept. 12 (9/12), but some only planned to attend a rally to be held in Topeka at the Capitol.
At one point the “grim reaper” arrived symbolically showing an opinion that the new proposed health care plans will not be good for many, especially the elderly.
Later when the four pro-Obama policy walkers returned, the much larger 9-12 group extended an invitation for a discussion in the shelter so opposing views could be heard, but that did not happen.
A few from the 9-12 group had a brief discussion with two of the pro-Obama policy “walkers.” There was agreement from both groups that all legislators should read bills before voting on them.
One of the two pro-Obama supporters identified herself as a legislator. She is Dolores Furtado, a Democrat from Overland representing State Rep District 19.
The man in the picture with a clipboard asked the two what government programs work well. He said “Medicare doesn’t work.”
One of the two pro-Obama supporters replied: “It works well for me … bye.” And the meeting was over.
Many of the 9-12 group the relocated two blocks south at 103rd and Lowell to show their signs to passersby. A total of almost 20 met in the small rally, but there were only about 15 at any given time.

On Thursday, July 23, 2009 The House Republican Health Care Solutions Group held a discussion to “examine the consequences of the Democrats’ healthcare proposal.” This link is as follows.
http://cspan.org/Watch/Media/2.....+Care.aspx
This video contains first-hand testimony from those ranging from a world-reknowned cancer expert in the U.K., to a leader of a medical transport agency that brings Canadian patients to the U.S when the Canadian system has denied or failed to properly care for them. Also included is the compelling first-hand testimony from a canadian patient who was forced to seek treatment in the U.S. in order to save her own life.
If everyone in the U.S were to see this Congressional testimony and realize what the future of the U.S. would look like with total government-run rationed healthcare (the inevitable end as explained in this video), the vote would be NO today. As has been pointed out, we have already sent visitors to that future, and it is not a place we want to go.
All Kansans we must make “Our Stand”, attend a 912 rally in your area and “Be Heard”!
Rally being held in Topeka, hopefully at the State Capitol.

September will be too late for health care. People need to be informed and contact their representatives and senators – NOW.
It has been reported that many in congress (especially Democrats) are not holding hometown “townhall-type” meetings so that they don’t have to answer questions from unhappy constituents. Still, you can contact your representatives local office by telephone over the August Congressional Recess.
There is NOT a health care crisis in the U.S. The health care system in our country is NOT broken – people from all over the country come here to recieve the best of care.
The “47 million” uninsured number is a COMPLETELY BOGUS, its more like 20 million, because the 47 million number contains illegal immigrants. And, of the 20 million that are left, many are young, upscale professionals who would rather pay out of pocket. For what is left, we have options to make coverage both accessable and portable.
Pres. Obama and the Democrats plan to make large cuts to Medicare to fund a trillion-dollar government-takeover of the U.S. health system. Most of us have seen the multiple videos of Obama before he was elected, stating that he was for single-payer ( government-only-healthcare), even though it couln’t be accomplished in 1-single-step. He can envision it a decade out…15 years out.. 20 years out…
If the “public-option” aka government-run option is put into the health care system, it would cause many employers to drop their private employee plans, NOT because the government option is BETTER for employees, but simply because it is CHEAPER for the employer. After a short time, what many agree, is that all private employer-based
insurance would be forever lost, reducing Americans to a child-like dependency on their government. One can be pretty sure to assume that the elite government class will appoint gold-plated healthcare benefits for themselves, as they do with trips and other benefits.
The CBO – Congressional Budget Office has said this plan WILL NOT SAVE ANY MONEY. In fact, they see it adding about a trillion new dollars to the deficit.
Republicans have REAL healthcare ideas that would be worth implementing, and many of the don’t cost anything. Among these are lifting the Democrats’ ban on being able to purchase a health-insurance policy across state lines; fair tax treatment for those people who buy insurance on their own and not at work; tort refor(such as in the case of malpractice), better HSA rules that allow HSA funds for insurance premiums, etc.
Republicans, and Democrats alike, all of those who respect the founding ideals of our country and those who want us to remain a free nation, a prosperous country – share your concerns with your lawmakers. Let your voices be heard.
