Apparently many of the contributions were unusual amounts, e.g., $130 (two tickets) or $650 (table host), because these were contributions to attend the "Torch  Dinner" event.

According to the Oct 3, 2003 Kansas City Star:

Talk about women power.

The recent Torch Dinner at the Westin Crown Center featured the four women candidates leading the Missouri ticket — governor candidate Claire McCaskill, secretary of state candidate Robin Carnahan, state treasurer candidate Nancy Farmer and Bekki Cook, who's running for lieutenant governor.

Then the Greater Kansas City Women's Political Caucus, sponsor of the dinner that drew more than 800 guests, had about 30 other caucus-endorsed candidates parade up to the stage.

Melba Curls received the top Pillar Award for her leadership role as state representative, and Brook Balentine, chairwoman of the newly formed Young Friends of the Caucus, received the Torch Award that's given to an up-and-coming political mover and shaker.

Then Kansas Sen. David Adkins got the crowd yelling along with him in a speech that played off of “The Apprentice” show's “You're fired!” rhetoric. He received the caucus's Good Guy Award for his voting record on women's issues.

Sister Pat Kenoyer, who won the Community Service Award, gave a moving speech about how her faith was the foundation for her commitment to women's equality. That played on the theme of the night, “It's Up to the Women.”  [efg's note:  Why is a Catholic nun supportive of a pro-abortion group?]

“Whoever you talk to running (for office,) they're focused on women voters,” said Tamara Morris, executive director of the caucus. “Everyone's trying to get women on their side.”

The Kansas City Star probably considers this a "mainstream" group, but this group's main focus appears to be to support pro-abortion candidates.  From the GKCWPC web site
