Did $13,000 given to Gov. Sebelius play part in Supreme Court Nominating Commission appointment?

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Thursday’s Kansas Register announced Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ appointment of Katherine Taylor DeBruce, a Democrat from Mission Hills, to the Supreme Court Nominating Commission.

Did the $13,000 contributed to Gov. Sebelius by Katherine DeBruce, her husband Paul DeBruce, and his DeBruce Grain company, have any influence on Sebelius’s appointment to the Supreme Court Nominating Commission? And what about the $5000+ DeBruce Grain gave to the Kansas Democratic Party in 2006 for “plane travel”? (more…)

Internet sources say Gov. Kathleen Sebelius attended Bilderberg 2008 Conference

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius A variety of Internet sources say Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius attended the 2008 Bilderberg meeting in Chantilly, VA on June 5-8, 2008. No mention of Gov. Sebelius attending this meeting can be found in the Kansas press.

In 2007 Gov. Sebelius attended the Bilderberg meeting in June in Istanbul, Turkey and the Kansas City Star reported the story on Sept 2, 2007:

Sebelius in June attended a gathering of the Bilderberg Group in Istanbul, Turkey. Bilderberg is an exclusive group of international business leaders, top politicians and academics from around the globe that meets once a year at top resorts. The enigmatic group is the frequent subject of New World Order conspiracy theories. (more…)

Prominent Kansas City Star staff member, registered to vote in Missouri, can still vote in Kansas thanks to Gov. Sebelius’ veto of voter ID law

Friday, June 6th, 2008

People in the Kansas City area can move across the state line and re-register to vote, and unknowingly become registered voters in both Kansas and Missouri. Such folks vote in their “new” state and are likely not even aware they are still registered in their “old” state. Legally, a voter cannot vote twice in both states, but it’s unclear whether such a voter accidentally registered in both states could vote in either their “old” state or their “new” state. And who would know if they did?

A prominent member of the Kansas City Star’s staff moved across the state line from Kansas to Missouri and re-registered to vote in Missouri, but is still an “active” registered voter in Kansas — more than 10 years later. (more…)

Did Gov. Kathleen Sebelius violate Kansas ethics laws by donating auction items and not reporting them? No, not if they were personal donations.

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius [Updated] Gov. Sebelius’ reception for Dr. George Tiller at the Governor’s mansion while Tiller was under criminal investigation has been in the news for the past several days. News reports today focused on a late reimbursement to the State of Kansas for the event. Gov. Sebelius did not report auction items she donated to the Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus, like the reception, as expenditures by her campaign committee or PAC, so the donations must have been made by her personally. Dinner for 6 or 20? Gov. Sebelius sold dinner, photos to highest bidder: Dr. George Tiller

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Gov. Sebelius, George Tiller, ProkanDo Trifecta On Monday Bob Novak, in a Townhall.com commentary “A Vice President for Abortion,” mentioned previously unknown information about Sebelius and Tiller:

Sebelius invited Tiller and his staff to a party at the governor’s mansion … in May 2007.

[Editor’s note: While the overall content of Novak’s piece was accurate, he should have worded some statements more carefully. For example, Tiller and his clinic’s $120,000 contributions to the Democratic Governors Association were in 2002-2004 not 2006, but were not discovered until just prior to the 2006 elections. There were no direct ProKanDo connections to Paul Morrison, but ProKanDo acted indirectly through a non-profit with negative “Snoop Dog” mailings to harm Kline and help Morrison in 2006.]

Today Operation Rescue revealed a number of photographs showing Dr. George Tiller and his staff at a reception with Gov. Kathleen Sebelius at Cedar Crest, the governor’s mansion.

GPACE PAC/Sebelius only want unreliable energy sources for Kansas?

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Great Plains Alliance for Clean Energy On Sunday the Great Plains Alliance for Clean Energy (GPACE) and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius were a political tag team in the Wichita Eagle as they both pushed for a long-term energy policy focused on unreliable sources of energy.

Don’t misundestand: I am all for using wind energy when it makes sense. I was one of the authors of the 1979 study, Wind energy applications in agriculture, when I worked for a research firm in Manhattan while at K-State. (more…)

Second Oops! “an unfortunate mistake … made in the email letter you were sent earlier today from Governor Kathleen Sebelius”

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius Repeated offense from 2006? This morning the Kathleen Sebelius Committee sent out an email with the subject “Our Energy Future.” The email addressed Sebelius’ view of the debate over the coal plants in Western Kansas during this year’s legislative session. Gov. Sebelius did not ask for contributions in words in her letter, but there was a “Contribute” button at the bottom of the email. But, elected officials may not solicit contributions from lobbyists until the legislature adjourns, which is likely next week.

By late afternoon a follow-up email was sent by her Political Director:

Will Gov. Sebelius call for removal of carbon dioxide pollutants from the Great Seal of the State of Kansas?

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Friday vetoed for the third time a bill allowing two coal-fired power plants in southwest Kansas. With Gov. Sebelius and Kansas Department of Health and Environment Secretary Rod Bremby so concerned with the carbon dioxide emissions from these coal power plants, how soon will they also try to eliminate the carbon dioxide emissions represented in the Great Seal of the State of Kansas?
